Where Can I Find the Bookshop Data?

Heard about Tableau’s Bookshop dataset but unsure about where to download it from? From Tableau of course.

You can find everything you ever wanted to know about it and its downloads direct from Tableau here. (Unless the link is moved or deleted)

But, the only available downloads tend to be either a large Excel workbook, or a bunch of pre-defined Tableau data sources. And so, on this page you will find not only csv versions of each table in the data set, but full deployment scripts + data for use with SQL Server.

Some other changes I’ve made are mostly with the dates, to bring this back to 2023-4 rather than 2178; its 2024 and we’ve been using electronic versions of books for nearly 20 years. Whose to say that 150+ years from now, we’ll even be using books? Although in 2015 we did not have hover boards, self-lacing Nike’s nor flying DeLoreans, so we might well be back to cave paintings by then.

This data hasn’t changed in the 5 years since Tableau first published it, and I suspect its probably not going to change in future either, and so I’ll look to review in 10 years time, unless this website is no more, or I forget. [Datawonders has been going for 10+ years now, so its more than likely going to be the latter as after all, web-hosting and a “.co.uk” domain currently costs less than a bacon sandwich (hence no adverts on my site)].

(For both mine and your sanity, I’ll only say this once assume the same for each)

• CSV: Crack open the csv in your favourite text editor/spreadsheet app and edit away, and then connect to or ingest into your favourite db before visualising in your favourite tool.

• SQL: Open as query and execute. Your fully populated pk’d table is just seconds away.
